Re: Sharan horn into t25
A common mistake is fitting them with the trumpet pointing outward, OEMs always fit them pointing down for that reason. My bus had the relay from new, but tbh unless you are leaning on the push for ages I cant see how a momemtary blip will overload the wiring by using newer horns.

Re: Sharan horn into t25
Ours now has a Passat horn. Works fine with an OE relay as do most in my experience because they are "current hungry" and will burn out switches if no relay. The original died a death last year. According to the wiring diagram there were originally two horn units side by side and there is the wiring for this but one works fine. Its now set higher up than originally because otherwise it gets clagged up with mud when we go off road.

Mine has the lovely camper beep horn but also a set of twin air horns wired to a separate switch for those road rage moments.

Re: Sharan horn into t25
I replaced mine with a Mk1 Golf GTi twin horn.
Very simple to add a relay in.

Re: Sharan horn into t25
Can you let me know which relay you used and which number slot it should fit. Never done anything electrical probably about time I started

Re: Sharan horn into t25
Any commonly available 30-40amp relay will do the job and you just put the relay where you can - doesn't need to be with the others.

And you DO need a relay. Anything beyong the stock one (momentary blip or not) and you'll burn out the horn contacts. Ask me how I know....
The stock one draws little - almost every other type draws more, and without a relay to take the load causes arcing on contacts and eventually no horn. The existing circuit wasn't designed for it.

Re: Sharan horn into t25
As Covkid says for the relay.
I just bought a standard one, intercepted the wiring above the fuse box and screwed my relay there.
Everything is on spade connectors, so armed with heavier graded wire and spade crimpers, ran a new feed onto the horn.
To use the horn push, you will need to intercept the live wire.
Bear in mind that the horn is constantly live and that the horn push button completes the circuit by going to Earth when you push it. There is a little spade connector on the steering column that goes to earth.
If you use this part of the circuit to drive the relay, and then use the new cable to feed the horn, all can be done without cutting any wires.
Intercept the original horn feed and connect that to 86, intercept and connect your feed to the horn push to 85 to create the drive for the relay.
Provide your heavier duty fused feed into 30 and then run a heavier gauge cable into horn from 87, earthing the horn wherever convenient for you.
Dead easy.
Best of luck

Re: Sharan horn into t25
You can use the stock wiring for the horn to power a relay at the horns location. I added a relay under the bumper and added a second horn as well. This video show the before and after effects of a relay on my original single horn.
http://youtu.be/M_coSMiGxyg?list=UUM2De ... 8i2Z2n8MLg
The 30 amp relay positions 86 Ground wire for the horn, 30 positive wire for the horn, 87 to the positive on the horn itself, 85 and 30 looped together, Negitive from the horn itself grounded to the chassis.

Now with my dual horns Blastng, they will scare the "pooh" out of you!!

Re: Sharan horn into t25
WIKI updated to include the use of existing horn push if you prefer that.

Just ensure it has a fuse on secondary circuit.
