When I do these I also stuff rags in just in case nut drops but also when refitting having removed buzz bar completely I attatch the end heater plug to bar with nut and just run it down almost to bottom of thread then I can use bar to manouver the heater plug behind pump where access limited and offer it into threaded hole (it's sometimes as easy to do this with the two most awkward plugs to reach rather than just end one) then VERY gently thread them into head. Nip them in with the lightest of touches so next person can undo them and voila ! the small nuts are already fitted to heater plug and only need a nip up. And this way A. you can't drop nut into engine area and B.you can hold plugs with bar whilst fitting. It's a lot easier than trying to get the awkward plugs behind pump in without dropping them.

Thanks blacky and everybody else. Got that rascal of a rounded nut off - OBG was right-on about using thin pair of mole grips. Took forever and freezing my ar$$ off in the drive. Tomorrow suppose to be a tad warmer so will try to finish up.

The way I understand it... I should loosely fit the pipes back on the injectors, crank-it for a few seconds to get the fuel back to the injectors, then tighten the pipes. Also, I pulled off one of the fibre hoses - diesel fuel return - anything need doing other than reattaching?

Sorry for the newbie questions but feel like I'm learning a whole lot.

I would check those braided fuel return hoses whilst you are there if I were you - look to see if they are starting to perish/crack on the ends, if they are replace them.

Getting that plug behind the pump in is killing me. I've tried every angle but just can't get it to stand up straight enough to drop in the hole. The body of the pump is hitting the top plus a wire (choke?) is in the way. Anybody got any suggestions?

I wiggled it so much the nut came off. It lies with it's mate in the graveyard of lost glow plug nuts :(

Got one, I rescued them from their hiding place. Any ideas on getting that plug in the hole?

Can't you do it as I suggested in earlier post, loosly attatched to buzz bar with tip of plug pointing to floor as you start feeding it in if I remember correctly and feed it in to hole using tip of a screwdriver.

Thanks blacky. I did try coming from the top down but no luck. I'll give it another try tomorrow with the screwdriver - I've been using a pair of pliers on the other end which is a bit cumbersome.

As already said, I use a stiff piece of copper wire on the thread, you won't be able to manoeuvre it delicately with the busbar on. I am wondering why you have ignored advice to put rags underneath to avoid losing your nuts? Two of us gave the advice!

Cheers OBG. Sorry, wasn't exactly sure how you meant to use the copper wire but think I've got it now. I'll use the rags too. Many thanks for the advice.

You're right O.B.G. a copper wire would possibly be somewhat easier than buzz bar but the reason I do it with bar is that the nuts are attached easily off the vehicle and when heater plugs are fitted there is no struggling to get the tiny nuts on as they're already on and just need a final tighten with a spanner. P.S. Can't remember if i do fit them initialy pointing to ground or do I have them pointing up ? anyway with a bit of jiggery pokery I'm sure our boy will manage. :)

Oldiebut goodie & blacky good tips
Might be changing my GP next week so will put into practice.

Got a feeling I have 2x GP down?? 50A fuse went a couple of weeks ago, replaced and all seemed OK until this week, van starting on 2 cylinder before running on
N all 4??
Maybe GP took fuse out? And now anothers gone as getting more current??

Any thoughts?
