Glow plug/Injector removal
Van wouldn't start the other morning on my 1.6TD JX. Everything I've read seems to say start with the glow plugs - it looks as though it's been many years since last done.
Removed three of the fuel lines - one nut is seized on one where it connects to the pump so left it. Nuts to the buss bar: the furthest rear (near back seat) was corroded and took the top of the glow plug off. The second one came off easy enough. No nut on the 3rd one! - that was easy. On the fourth plug the nut is rounded and the only way I can get to it is to take out the injector. This is all new to me so could use a little help.
I've done a search and read where you need a 27mm extra-deep socket to remove the injector - anybody know where I can get one? And, to put a new flame trap when reinstalling - so will order a few. Anything else I should do?

Re: Glow plug/Injector removal
I am wondering why you need to remove the injectors? Thin mole grips for the rounded off nut. Fiddly job to do the glow plugs but they come out and return without removing anything else. I use a stiff piece of copper wire to hold the one behind the pump whilst seating it. Use copper then you can hold it tight on the busbar thread without damaging it.Stuff a piece of rag underneath to catch the nuts as you drop them a couple of times - they usually lodge underneath the pump bracket, I found two under there when I stripped my new 1Y! One of those extending flexible pick up tools is handy too if you do drop them.

Re: Glow plug/Injector removal
If the glow plugs are that knackered, the injectors will most likely put up quite a fight too. Give them a good soaking in plus gas over a few days. Most motor factors sell the socket, or Ebay.
hopefully you can get them out without damaging the head. Good luck!
As oldie says though, shouldnt need to take them out. Sometimes though, you just need the space.

Many thanks, chaps!
OBG, I'll give the mole grips a try. Really don't want to disturb that injector.
Jocko, might use them if all else fails but determined to do on my own.

That will teach me to read properly. I see you said you are looking for the socket, not where to get it done.

Why would I do that? Too sensible, figured they've been in there for eons so a change would be good regardless. If that's not it then relay, then???

Re: Glow plug/Injector removal
Thanks Mike... fuse looks OK but I'll check that if plugs don't do it.
