Buzzer sounding! Only when hot air blower on!

Post by danh1982 »

Help! I'm brand spanking new to t25 ownership (and this club!) having bought a LHD 1990 1.6TD California at the weekend!
Covered 400km ish since purchase.
Using as a regular driver. Today on route home a buzzer started sounding... I've rad about the buzzer of doom and I'm pretty sure it's the same buzzer!!
However... The buzzer is preceded by a ropey sounding fan noise in the dash when the air blower is on. Buzzer intensity alters when changing strength of fan I.e really load on 3 no buzzer on 0...

Had a brief look at the earths but they look ok... Need to get them off and clean, but in the mean time wondered if anyone had experienced this before....

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Are you SURE it isn't the heater blower bearings?

Nope... Not sure about anything! Any clue how I might identify this ? It sounds much like an electronic buzzer... But seem to be preceded by a scrap-ey type noise...

Tried again later on and it started and then stopped on its own...

That description reminds me of a leaf or piece of paper in the fan.

Switch the ign on and try the fan in all positions without the engine running.
Won't get the buzzer without the engine running.

Yep, could be a leaf, or motor bearings shot. Just about every T25 blower motor (if original) is on borrowed time now. You can sometimes get a little extended time with WD40 but as the motors age they draw more amps and the fuses get bigger. Only sure answer is to replace if its had it. With winter coming up, you'll need it too!

Investigation continued... Could get it to make the noise again? Could I chuff... However a clunking noise has appeared when the blower is first switched on?? Still working just fine! On it's way out? £40 to replace? Thanks for your help!

The clunking noise is not likely to be the motor, my clunking was one of the flaps inside had come loose and the pressure of air when you turn the blower on was causing it to "flap" over to the casing. Not a big problem except it might restrict the flow of air to one of the outlets. I lived with it for years until I had to change the fan motor due to it screeching it's head off and then starting to blow fuses.

The buzzer of doom is a steady, fairly high pitched, genuine "buzzer" sound. I don't think it could easily be mistaken for a screachy bearing or a leaf stuck in the fan, (though, in deference to those who suggested it, it could be 8) )
