is the best place to get the combiecolor mixed to a color of your choice with a bit of discount avenue coatings ?

Better (if possible) to find a standard RAL colour (and they do a heck of a lot) as any patching-in work in future will be a breeze. I think if I were going to the trouble of getting it mixed, I'd use 2-pack.

Think you might be right there covkid as i have try ed the ral 3020 and its just a bright orange not a bright red and the ral 3000 is a darker orange.Try ed to post a pick of the results but cannot seem to get the pick up any way its Iver get one made up or anther complete color change or try a two pack over the top and see if it reacts

It may not look red until you've got a couple of coats on though....



Also depends what colour you're painting over. I think spray shops use a yellowish primer for a red topcoat.

hi covkid i initially thought this but i first painted the engine bay with five coats when the engine was out over combicolor primer which is a light gray almost white to bring out the color out a bit quicker but once out in day light it looks an old 80s red/orange.I give rustoleum a bell to ask there opinion on the ral2030 leaning towards a bright orange and they suggested its a possible bad batch or old stock.It would be interesting to know if any body has used the ral 3020 and got the same outcome or a true bright red

Old stock doesn't seem very likely unless its 20 years old. Reds can be a problem in sunlight but by and large its a very stable paint and less subject to changing shade than many paints. Strange I must admit.

i agree its strange i got a test tin of ral3000 and its a darker orange i am at a bit of a loss as to what my next move is

Hi folks, got some painting to do v soon as my rear arches are nearly complete (replaced), need to get some rustoleum on them to protect them and I can't remember who/what/where folks are getting those cheap roller sets and foam brushes from - probably eBay. Could someone inform me of where to buy them? Many thanks.

Also also also, despite reading this thread some time ago and writing down relevant points, I've gone and lost my note pad, thus, I've the code for the paint for the van, do I just quote it to Avenue coatings and they'll match it for me or is there a chart somewhere?

The colours are near the bottom. Got my good quality rollers from b&q. Pack of 5 or 6 if I remember.

Thanking you kindly, just need to find some of the foam 'brush' type thingies now. Exciting times, been looking forward to this for a long time.

You can often find the foam brushes in those big craft shops. I originally got a bag full of them from a pound shop but not seen any in one of those for some years. You could use a very soft bristle brush if you really can't get any but foam ones do tend to work better.

RAL code needed for my van so that I can order the rustoleum. Vw code is LH5V, anybody happen to know what this is on the RAL chart? Many thanks. Mitch.
