Oil pressure switch spec
OK, I need to know which oil pressure switches to order.
for 1990 1.7 diesel non-turbo.
I did check the wiki, found this
https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Al ... and_causes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
but it is still inconclusive. Please help, no one seems to talk to me anymore.

Re: Oil pressure switch spec
I just received two new oil switches as described by the member above, but I think one is wrong.
from the wiki:
the two I got, as suggested are 0.9 and 1.4 bar, one would be right for the high/low, but I now have nothing for the low/low. The one on the bus now is brown. The brown does not seem to be available, so I guess the blue is universal. Günzl told me I want the grey 0.9 bar, must be for the high/low. I do not know if this is correct.
can anyone point me to somewhere I can look up this spec, definitively? This stuff drives me nuts.
from the wiki:
Typically the low/low is set at about 0.25~0.3 bar, depending on vehicle and switch (colour) code.
Typically the high/low is set at about 0.9~1.4 bar, depending on vehicle and switch (colour) code.
Low rpm/low pressure sensor - 028 919 081 C (0.3 bar BROWN) - Early original fit?
Low rpm/low pressure sensor - 028 919 081 D (0.25 bar BLUE) - Later replacement for all .3bar switches
High rpm/low pressure sensor (Diesels) - 068 919 081 A (0.9 bar GREY)
High rpm/low pressure sensor (Diesels) - 068 919 818 (1.4 bar BLACK)

Re: Oil pressure switch spec
There is just a low and a high switch
Its really not as complicated as you think
dont worry about the old colour it may not be original anyway
the grey is the oil pressure light and described as low as it triggers at a lower pressure than the other, its always fitted this is open with good oil pressure,, the high switches in the opposite way ( closed with good oil pressure) and operates the buzzer

Yes you need a 0.3 bar switch for the low pressure switch on all engines. The high pressure switch is 1.4 bar for non turbo and 0.9 bar for turbo engines.Joju wrote:I just received two new oil switches as described by the member above, but I think one is wrong.

thank you for that. Luckily I have both 1.4 and 0.9 now! I am going to have to trust that the 0.3 brown is ok ... these were all mixed up after buzzer crisis which turned out to be water in the PCB.

Re: Oil pressure switch spec
ok ... I have fitted the new 1.4 bar black for the high pressure, leaving the old brown 0.25 for the low pressure, as I do not have a blue 0.3 now. I think that is the one that has been there since we got the bus.
We are on the road tomorrow, please let me know if I should get a blue to replace the brown!

Re: Oil pressure switch spec
Does the oil light come on when you turn the ignition on before starting?
then go out once you have started?
if so the switch is working
why are you changing them anyway?
did you have problems?

thanks for your reply ... the oil light comes on when I turn the ignition on, then goes off after a second or so on its own, before starting. Is this OK?
We had the oil light come on while we were travelling about 18 months back. We went to a local garage we had been to before, he found that the problem was water damage to the PCB in the instruments. We could not get a replacement for the PCB so he soldered in a lot of bridging wires, and changed one of the pressure switches to match his improvisation. He gave me one extra switch and told me to replace 'the one on the oil filter' when we could replace the PCB.
I only got around to replacing the PCB this week, and when I opened the little box he gave me, there were two switches, one grey looking old, one black looking quite new. I decided it might be best just to replace both the switches with new as I had no idea what was what.
I think there was nothing wrong with the original oil switches when we had the oil light come on that time, just electrical issues. I have no idea exactly what he did back then but it worked all this time. I only got it together to change the PCB because the yellow glow-plug light has been flickering occasionally. Ironically, this is still happening after my PCB replacement.
SO right now I have the old brown 0.25 low/low switch and the new 1.4 high/low switch fitted. Does this sound OK? Any thoughts on flickering glow-plug light? Glow-plugs were replaced by Simon Spannerboy about two years ago.

.
Sorry but i dont know, i have a petrol so maybe different
my oil light comes on (flashing) when ignition is on but not started and stays like that until i start.
the fact that yours comes on implies to me the low pressure switch must work but i dont know if its right that it goes out, does it flash?
hopefully somebody will know
you could try earthing the low pressure switch wire and see if its different , its short circuit to earth when the engine has no oil presure
