could not see to much in the bently.
is it just a case of rocker cover of & 10 head bolts? or is there more?

A link to download a PDF copy of the JX section of the VW service manual for the T25. You now also have a PM.

It's really very easy
Post some pics when it's off. Don't bother buying the pump timing stuff yet, if you don't mess with the pump you can just put it back together

aye you only need a plate to lock the cam at the rear(g box end)
and you can make a tool to hold the cam sprocket whilst tightening its nut, as said dont touch the pump and you will be fine

Re: how easy to take the head off 1.6 jx ?
Hi, I didnt take the cambelt rear plate off, there were a seemingly neverending series of half hidden bolts. I just bent the plate to one side a bit so that I could get the head off and out. Bending the plate allowed me to lift the head without the front protruding end of the camshaft fouling the plate itself. The only tough bit of the job was undoing the spline head bolts that secure the exhaust pipe to the manifold. I bought a spline socket to fit, size 12, and used my little 12volt wheel nut impact wrench to undo and do them back up.
