Petrol tank breather parts

Hi,

When trying to fill up the tank to the top for the first time, my van suffered the dreaded petrol all over the forecourt. So I've dropped the petrol tank and have been looking for the problem.

My van is from 1984 , im just wondering how accurate people think the wiki would be, when looking at the wiki:

It seems my tank didnt have any grommets fitted nor 3 way connectors nor tube connecting the two sides and a pretty wild array of pipes
It may have been there was some sealant and milk bottle tops used instead of the grommets.

Going to have to order quite a few pieces and wanted to ensure I get the right bits. Thanks in advance.

I replaced my tank (1990)and all the piping last year.
Apart from the pipe clips on the breather hoses mine looked just like the picture.
The way that the breather tanks vent to the air depends on year and country of origin, mine just had open pipe, but some have a charcoal filter.
The dimensions of the fuel filler changed about 1983 (I think) so check that.

Yep , Im pretty sure thats the problem.

Guessing the work had done within the last couple of years as the main tank was in pretty good condition and showed no sign of rust. So thats one good thing.

Will be washing it out with a bit of petrol. The old fuel filter had a little bit of sediment or something in. Whilst we are on the subject - any recommendations of how to keep a tank healthy? e.g. cover it in some sort of grease / tar
