master cylinder
i have a leak from the clutch-brake master cylinder dripping on to the floor under the steering wheel
is it best to replace the seals or a complete new master cylinder ??

I wouldn't mess about with seals given the age of the van. Work out which one it is that's leaking first though unless you are going to replace them both anyway.

which one ? do you mean there are two cylinders under the dash or were you including the slave on the gear box ?

Brake master or clutch master. Gearbox slave won't drip on the floor under the steering wheel!

ha ha very funny
so there are two cylinders under the dash then
it`s the clutch cylinder as the clutch is playing up

Yep, there's two. Press the clutch or brake pedal, the relevant master pushes fluid in the right direction(s). They share the reservoir, but the clutch takes off from higher up, so you run out of fluid for the clutch first.

Not sure that's a guarantee that it's the clutch master. If the fluid level drops far enough, the clutch'll suck air in, with bubbles in the line. It could still be either master that's leaking, since they'll both drop the level. I suspect it's head-under-dash time, with a torch in hand.
