2.0 L Aircooled Carbs

sorry to gate crash the party from the earlier thread......

I too am running solexes and get around 19mpg-21mpg. i have been told to get some Weber ICT......

I have looked at the options and they appear to be as follows:

Gasure rebuild of Solex PDSIT £210
Gower and Lea rebuild / rebush/ chemical clean etc etc £360
Dellorto/ weber - genuine Weber ICTs cheap kit £399 jetted correctly for engine
Dellorto/ Weber - genuine Weber ICTs CB performance kit £488.50

This leaves me in a bit of a quandrary as i am totally unsure which option to go for. My brain tells me to go for the Gower and Lea rebuild as i retain the chokes and essentially get brand new solexes back , but the 6-7 week turnaround means i will have to cycle to work for the time it takes to complete during the crappy winter weather.....

The reason i am keeping the twin singles is because i am running LPG

Any thoughts on best course of action ??

or alternatively can anyone lend me a pair of 2.0l Solex PDSIT for the 6-7 week period so that i can have them rebuilt and then i will return my old ones which are on a daily driver once the carbs are rebuilt........ heres hoping

Can I ask, if you are running LPG do you need the carbs setup? I'm new to this and am about to reinstate the LPG on our recently aquired van. But I thought that once on LPG the carbs were just valves? If you run mostly on gas how much is it worth spending on the petrol setup?

Ostensibly I think you are correct! However if there are leaks on the spindles and wear on carbs I would imagine this would effect economy mixtures etc ...

icts give no gain for te money over stock solex.

me? id go get some 36 or 40mm dellortos. worth every single penny.

You seem to be getting a fair fuel consumption for your set up
realising 2-3 more mpg might just be a case of a tune up.
or a change in driving style

I have to agree with Jason the DRLA delortos are just awesome.
but with LPG it's not easy to run them, not impossible though Steve has managed it I think.

They have been tampered with quite a bit to get to run correctly, never rolling roaded however..

I guess the most sensible course of action is Steve at Gasure so will give it some consideration.

Re your comments about changing driving style I am satisfied with driving at a maximum of 60-70 on motorways/ dual carriageways and happy at 50 mph on normal roads! Not a speed freak but then who would be in a t25! Great vehicle ! Have had it for last 6 years best purchase we ever made ...

The only time it goes any quicker is when my psycho wife drives.... On the rare occasion she is allowed

speed isn't style, anyone can go slower or faster
gear changes and braking in an Aircooled van is the style I meant, it's quite different to modern cars.

Understood ! My driving is s done to suit the van rather than forcing the old beast to conform to modern standards ha ha !!
Which is why I wanted to stick to solex es rather than performance enhancing goodies!

can recommend the carb refurb from Gasure. Had mine done last month. Certainly improved the vans performance and was surprised how quiet it is now.
