Cant get VW camper into gear!! Help

I have a 1983 VW Camper five gears, petrol. I cannot get it into gear, the gear stick has now been removed and I am told I need a replacement of the parts directly below the gear lever. Does anyone have any pictures I can look at, as, Im not sure if the bolt is broken and if their should be a plastic cushion on both sides, can anyone help? Or if anyone has the whole gear lever for sale, it must be for a left hand drive vehicle. Many thanks. Tina.

Clutch release bearing in bell housing. Just done mine. Would it change gear when not running? If so there's your answer.
