which spark plugs do you use

As title really, My 1.9 has a very slight miss when pulling away and on tick over and misses if I put it in 4th below 40mph I am pretty sure it's the plugs they were supplied with the purchase of the van so I put them in but they had no markings or numbers on them which I find a bit strange never known that before. I will replace them but just wondering what everybody else uses ie: make and number does one make work better than another or are they much of a muchness.

Thanks for that link I had actually read that just wondered what the general feeling was across the forum regarding makes I have normally used NGK plugs on all my vehicles if I can get them without any problems.

Bosch/Beru or NGK....nothing wrong with Japanese plugs.... :shock:

But good old Bosch W7DC (non resistor type) would be a decent choice.

Just be aware that plug leads, especially the metal plug caps, are a more likely cause of misfire....if you do have metal covered caps I would strongly recommend you remove the metal covers with tin snips or change them for NGK straights like these (they just screw on to the copper HT lead/wire)

Thanks for all the comments guy's like I said I normally use NGK but this time I have ordered Bosch to give them a whirl, I must admit I didn't think of the plug caps and they are metal ones so I will change them for the NGK straight ones I will probably do the plugs first to see the difference and then add the caps got to try them all havn't you to see whats best for you I have already discovered supermarket fuel is not liked by my van, I don't normally use it but got a bit worried when I was told the Guage is not to be relied on.
I love this forum, all the help freely given and really helpful to a newbie like me who likes to tinker I don't mind spending money but I hate wasting it hence the reason for all the questions.

Without detracting from Martin's learned comment I was VERY surprised to see the metal plug caps when I first bought The Bus (having had bad experiences from an old MZ cap and a sadistic father :evil: :roll: ) but *touch wood* I have never had a single issue with them on the van :lol:

just fitted a set of metal ended HT leads today,bought them from brickwerks (beru) this week with new dizzy cap and new rotor arm,I ordered an ordinary rotor arm without checking what I had fitted and then noticed that the old rotor has a spring on the top,is that a rev limiter type of thing and should it be okay using an ordinary rotor in its place??

No problems except....on campers in particular, where the rear engine and mattress make it difficult to hear the engine revs, leaving it unprotected from unintentional over revving.

Resistors are already fitted in the rotor arm, plug lead ends and caps.....having resistor plugs as well is just unnecessary.
The only reason resistors are fitted is to minimize radio and television interference.. However, resistors by their very nature, do make the circuit (ignition in this instance) more prone to breaking down, although I have to emphasise that on the whole these components are extremely reliable.
However, given the choice, I would fit non resistor type as the 'resistor' serves no additional purpose (the plug cap is already suppressed ) and is not required.
Does it make any difference to the running...non that you would notice.

Ian and Kevin say neither of them have ever had an issue with plug leads with metal shrouded plug caps......
Let me ask both of them a question: have either of you ever replaced your plug leads? and if you have, why did you change them? they don't wear out, they are not part of any service schedule!
I suspect that both of them.....(and I know that Kevin and Ian keep their vans in tip top condition with regular services), have also been changing their leads/rotor arm/distributor cap at set intervals (3 - 5 years perhaps) even though the service schedule never specified this (it was always a check and replace only if tracking or other damage was evident)
If this is the case^^^^ then it's hardly surprising that they have had no issues.........don't mean to be presumptuous guys.

the only reason I replaced the HT leads,dizzy cap and rotor arm was because I have never replaced them in the nearly 4 years I have had the van,it was running sweet as a nut, oil changes get done regular and anything else that needs doing gets done,you know what it is like sometimes I go out to tinker around and make work for myself,I'm sure that I am not the only one that does that :D
