Rust!!! Help!!!

Post by Kayd13 »

Hi everyone poor Wilma our 1987 T25 has developed rust! Particularly over the wheel arches but a big rusty hole in the foot step on drivers side. If I could work out how to upload pics it would be easier. Im worried this is going to be an expensive body shop job, but thought as you all were pretty expert and have been really helpful in the past, you might suggest a reliable and reasonable body shop in north east England. Or give me some tips to carry out home repair/ damage control.

Thanks x :D

Search on eBay for a product called 'vactan', which is a chemical rust converter/prohibitor. It's quite easy to wire brush the loose material off the surface and then apply vactan with a paint brush. Will keep rust at bay, but its still best to seek professional advice as rust on the surface could be the tip of the iceberg.

Vactan's brilliant stuff, but it can't help you with a big rusty hole.

Here's Metalmick8y's brilliant essay on how to repair cab steps properly:

Water mixed with 25% white vinegar is good for stopping rust as well and a lot cheaper than some of the products on the market, brush it on when the rust goes black rinse well and then do whatever it is you want to do with it. Just one of those tips you pick up over the years that gets passed on hopefully will help someone.
