Yep, usually because the throttle shaft is worn. When its that bad, you'll struggle to get a consistent idle, if at all because the fuel air ratio keeps changing with air being sucked through tiny gaps around this shaft. What Roger does is remove the shaft, check it for true, run it in his lathe to ensure theres a smooth finish then make phosphor bronze bushes to match = snug fit. You'll find its a piece of cake to set the idle then. Its about the only part that wears on those.

Can PM you his number if you want to drop it off to him. Depends where you are in Essex I suppose. He may be able to do it while you wait and he's not expensive. Otherwise, if it IS the screw, theres normally a rubber O ring in there to stop it coming loose.9 times out of ten the shaft is worn though. Roger would be able to sort either/both.

Look on this WIKI page under "Carb stem throttle flap wear" - tell him Ralph sent you. Teatime prob best times to get him.

https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Fu ... -_Pierburg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I know yours isn't a Pierberg but thats where his number is.

I'd get yourself a carb repair kit if its not been overhauled in a long time. Roger won't supply that bit.
