fuel line

hi all,

having read all the posts about replacing fuel lines, i'm seriously considering this as one of the tasks for the winter months.

could someone be really helpful and give me a list of what i need to order including and jubilee clips etc.

i do try to read the wiki, but i'm no mechanic and get confused,i really want to get this right first time.

i have a 1981 1600 CT Aircooled, RHD.

What I would do is look at the pipes you have installed and see what size hose you have. Once you have the sizes you can then order the right size hoses, when you have the hoses you need head to your local hardware store and buy the clips you need. And if you have a local motor factors you can buy fuel pipe off the reel, that way you can buy in length and cut the lengths you need saving your self money from having to buy more clips and hose connectors.

I did find on my 1.6 CT the hoses were 6mm, I cut a small bit out that was split and only when trying to refit the pipe I found it was way too small for the fittings, so I replaced with a size bigger, im going to be doing the same thing myself and im going to choose 7mm or 8mm pipe.

Pipe
Inline fuel filters
clips
and maybe fuel pipe connectors.

Hi mbs, I'm sure someone will be along soon to advise you on this, my mate has just changed most of mine but am unsure as to what the difference is between the pipes on my wbx and your Aircooled. As you state you're no mechanic do you have anyone local who could do the job for you?

The clips in that eBay link above are worm-drive "Jubilee" clips, not fuel hose clips. Those ones won't give a proper seal on fuel hose. Try something like this, as mentioned earlier in this post:

Actually, looking back through this thread, I don't think it was mentioned here about how important it is to use proper fuel hose clips. They're the only thing that really works for the job.

sorry, can someone clarify, if i buy the wrong size, ie bigger than already fitted, does it matter?

Hi there,
You do need the right size because if its to big it wouldn't seal as good and could fail.
This sort of thing it best to make sure you have the right size.
Contact brickwerks I am sure they could advise.
