whats this bit do ??

Post by pionte »

OK , so I have a broken part on this piece,

bolted to the rear bulk head behind the engine. it is obviously somesort of connection for the water pipes from the engine bay to the rad... there is a twiddly nob bit then below that is ( or should be a small pipe) that leads to the engine....

Mine snapped of when the monkey ( me ) forgot to unclip it when I took the engine out , to be fair I was doing it on my own without a hoist.

Anyhow my question is, is the twiddly nob bit somesort of blead valve ? and ifso in the closed position does it stop water from passing into the small pipe ( aprox 3mm diameter) if that is the case then it is less of a worry at the mo as I can just bung up the other end with a temporary stopper and keep the twiddly bit shut...

I would buy a new one but my early cooling system seems to be as rare as a rare thing

Cripes, for that money I'd either be raiding the local plumbers merchants or assembling bits of scrap and coming up with my own solution. Thats insane. Its not as if thats a really complicated junction!

In this instance I think I'd gently cut a thread into that broken piece and screw in a small section of threaded pipe. As long as you stick reasonably close to metric sizes it should be dooable. Glue would be useless in that environment I think.

Mine snapped off there too, if you carefully file away some of the 'bridge' under the broken spigot you will be able to get the pipe back on.

Mine broke a few years ago now when you couldn't get them but I think I would just buy a new one if you can.
