Re: windscreen wiper fuse blowing ?
Fuses don't just blow. They are blown. The wiper motor's drawing too much current. Might just be an old and knackered motor or linkage, might be a short in the wiring.

I recently got the van and the previous fuse was blown so got a fresh set and replaced the wiper fuse. I'll look into a new motor thanks

On my 1983 bus, the windscreen wipers are on the same fuse as the blower. My blower is seized, so turning the blower switch on blows the fuse. There's a mod on the wiki somewhere describing how to separate them onto different fuses.

Re: windscreen wiper fuse blowing ?
Yes, although it can sometimes be the wiper motor itself drawing too much current but 9 times out of 10 it will actually be a tired blower motor (strictly a job to sort in the warmer months). The blower can take out the wipers. I wrote a chunk on how to modify this layout:

What it WILL do is split the two, helping to isolate the fault so you know the cause as well as improve safety.

Thanks going to run a few tests see what happens to find out the problem area been told it could also just be Tue wipers being stiff so putting strain on wiper motor I'll see if I can try source the problem and fix the attending arrival going to look into changing over the wipers and heater too .
Thanks for the tips the forum is helping loads .

Re: windscreen wiper fuse blowing ?
If its any consolation. I have the problem on both even with them split. Swapping blower AND wiper motor this year. What can I expect of motors close to 30 years old.

Re: windscreen wiper fuse blowing ?
Hi so got chance to test this problem today put a fresh ceramic fuse in turned wipers on worked fine then turned blowers on and instant blown fuse so put a fresh fuse in and turned wipers off . checked the link out but it just went to a unknown page going to need get this done by someone who knows there electrics but at least its kind of solved .
In writing this I've realised I did not test just the blowers on their own so I'll have to order some extra fuses to make sure I got some spare so I can still use the van and wipers.

Re: windscreen wiper fuse blowing ?
Sounds like it's dash-out time, and rebuild/replace the blower motor.

https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Co ... eplacement" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Just read the last section in this I think I'll be putting a extra fuse box in so both are separated and leaves me space to wire in few new things like cig lighter ect . I can live without blowers for know as other jobs needs doing on the van first .

I have an 1983 t25 with new wiper motor and blower motor. Yet it still blows 25 amp fuses (the biggest I could find on ebay). And yes the wiper and blower motors have been replaced this year. Fuse only blows when both are on together. So my guess is it`s drawing too many amps combined. So I`ll have to look at splitting them.

Re: windscreen wiper fuse blowing ?
Why VW wired them together like this on pre-85 models escapes me but they saw fit to change it post-85. The fuses tend to blow on startup with the current draw settling down once motor is up to speed so the answer may be to fit independent 'slow blow' fuses to get around the problem? Bear in mind I'm talking about new motors rather than old ones which by now almost certainly need replacing anyway. A standard quick-blow 25amp fuse handling both may be pushing it. Electric motors vary a bit and some (new or not) may draw more than others, even if in theory all should be similar off the production line. Definately split the two for starters.
Either that or wear wellies and rubber gloves and fit one of these

My blower motor still has a 25amp fuse in it to get it to start, even split from wiper but clearly thats a strong indication that it has reached the end of its natural life now. Like me, it takes time to get going basically.
This might help as it explains why a slow blow fuse really suits this application: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=575829" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: windscreen wiper fuse blowing ?
Create a six amp fuse from two threes. Works a charm.
