Re: CV Joint boots
Oh dear....! Had a crawl round under my van today and found this...

Not impressed as that's a vw boot I fitted just under a year ago..the other one is fine but this one has split along the join of the two boot halls...it's still under its 2 year parts warranty so looks like my vans going into work soon!

Re: CV Joint boots
thats not good
not the usual place to split though, did you have a metal clamp on the boot?

Time is a drug. Too much of it kills you

Re: CV Joint boots
No clamp nope...seems the boot joint has opened up....no grease in that part really...and no rubbing...oddly the outer boots are still ok and are spidan ones off mr b..so seems ultra violent light may be a factor too as its dark in the trailing arm.

Re: CV Joint boots
Just found this today

although looks more like a tear than a split
picked up a load of porker driveshafts and some came with these boots which have gone on the van with no name along with the CV's

they don't utilise any ties the inside are have a self sealing ring and the outer part is attached to the metal ring quite cool design
also put up a porsche 944 turbo driveshaft beside a vw rear one

measured the prosch one its 537mm anyone have the length of a t3 one as couldn' get an accurate measurement as have a cv joint on the other end which refuses to budge but looked to be aprox 540mm ?
