Ok, Vw compared to GKN boots.... difference is massive
firstly the material used is much thicker and feels a lot more robust

The 16" boot differs from the 14" in that it is a sealed boot with a gasket on the cvj, for this to work it needs a air hole to stop it vacuuming. So it has a bobble on the end seperated from the rest of boot (see above pic) except a small gap, as you can see from below the air gap from main boot to bobble is not on the GKN boot...

you can see the air hole here and the audi logo/part number

Here's the label in case any one can trace manufacturer

Interesting. Be good to know what else you get in the kit.

Circlip, grease and gasket for cvj
i'm picking up a 14" rear boot from vw tomorrow, so i can let you know what comes with it then. saying that i'm sure there is a pic from max&caddy a few pages back with all the bits you get with that boot. I'm sure its bolts and washers too. I wont be able to use the bolts though as i'm using the boot as a front inner, so need the longer bolts

Also .... Just to clarify ..... 14" boots available through VW , a new brand to us. Which you are using on 16" front inners and rears, and an Audi 100 front outer which you are using on front outer?

No...
front outer i have one GKN and one white VW, both for 16"syncro
front inner i am using a VW 14" rear boot
rears are all audi 100/A6 inner boots. This isn't a different boot to the 16" syncro, they are the same part number, same as the cv joints themselves.
Can't comment on fit as i haven't fitted them yet, will be a few days. A set of four comes to £125

..no bolts included in the 14" kit but schnorrr washers and grease are..also a clip.

Other than the sticker I pictured above, there is no other details on manufacturer?
Picked up the 14" boot today, thankfully it's the same thick rubber.

It cost me £29.23 so about the same price as the 16" boot

No other writing on the 16" boots at all? Be 3 digit code...all parts from vw have them as without warrantys are worth nothing.

Expensive ain't they! I got a mine for a bit less than that...but still more than mr B charges for the spidan lobro gkn or whoever makes them ones.
