Post by R0B »

Mine had gone a greyish colour. My neighbour showed me a handy little trick to get it back to black. He went over it with a heat gun.I now looks like brand new.

I have heard of this trick but I've also heard that it's not a permanent fix.

Don't the parts "fade" back to the original look?

Please keep us informed Rob.

If it's good for a few months it's worth doing.
Will give it a bash at the next opportunity.

we used to use it when I worked in plastic moulding....heat gun and scotch brite pad...

polish, shine and restore the skinned effect.

Mine needs a little bit more than cleaning. For some reason, a previous owner has converted it to a 7 piece by sawing the two main bits in half. It also has gaps as if they tried to shorten it  .

So, advice please. How do I best repair it. I guess plastic welding, but I don't really want to spend large wads on a special welder. Would a hot air gun do it?

Also, any ideas as to what material it is, as I guess I will need to source filler rods of the appropriate similar material.

Thanking you in advance for your valued advice. :idea
