Thought THIS might be why 1st/2nd are sometimes hard to get. Any advice folks?

1987 twinslider tintop, 4 speed manual, 1.9DG (broken) currently being replaced with scooby lump

I have cases bored and sleeved if more than a 1.5mm total play
there is often play in shaft/lever join too, none allowed
