What about compressing air with it? Have an onboard tank for tyre inflation, air tools, etc. that could prove very useful!

Air con pumps can be adapted to provide compressed air....some bloke did it on a landrover.


Could be a good thing to have as when not needed will use zero energy...the PTO setup however is more spinning things to go wrong inside the gearbox and those need to be avoided in my opinion..having said that I will pay £50 for it..

I have a novice question. Where is exactly this PTO? In other words, how can I see if I have it? Is it sticking out of the gearbox?

I will continue making a fool of myself:) By snout I understand the front pointy part. That is where the take off for the main shaft is located, and to be honest I thought that this is exactly the PTO, but from this thread I got the impression that there is another indepentend takeoff somewhere else. Which also is less powerful? What was the purpose of that originaly?

They are used for all sorts of things, most obvious one is a hydraulic pump to run things like recovery truck beds, tipper bodies and hydraulic winches.
My old teacher at college had a landy with a generator on his so he could do outdoor pa.
They usually also come with some method for raising the idle speed, like a choke cable or something.
As far as I'm aware only T3s destined for Finland ever had them fitted.

Mine did have a PTO, injection pump has a factory fitted twin cable set up with obviously twin 'throttle' arms, and as clopper bloke says, has got what is basically a choke cable that locks at differing increments/steps to raise idle speed. still got these bits fitted on it.

I knew of a LR that had a compressor fitted and because of this it was on a lower tax due to it being 'agricultural plant' So yes, it could have been right then, dont know about now.
