practical uses for a PTO
cant seem to think of any uses for a pto on the van other than novelty value uses such as say running a wood pellet making hopper or such...is there any hope for pto's or will they just remain tax/novelty value accesories destind to be of ornimental only value forever..surly there must be one use for them and if there is i cant think of it...any ideas

Re: practical uses for a PTO
I do want one for the cut away box build if anyone who's sat on one decides that actually they aren't ever going to use it, that would be a good use - but I'm not paying silly money for one
the swimsyncro uses it to run the propeller drive when in swim mode
I thought about using it to run a hydraulic pump to run a hydraulic winch but putting a ps pump on the engine is easier solution to that one

dident really think about the propulsion.... thats prob one of the better practical uses might have to incorperate a decopler alongside the pto add a front diff refasion the locker panel to accmodate the 4th knob stamp "amphibious mode" on 4th knob attatch propellor... add rudder ...equip with flairs ,becons, lifejackets, anti skurvy tablets, satellite phone,.........do one legged dokas not swim in circles??

Re: practical uses for a PTO
having said that wading ...fording..ok...but boating in a syncro hmmm....bit like being comming accross an impassible road/route in switzerland last year due to snow, only option get the van on a train through a tunnel job done....wanna cross a river...find a bridge...make a bridge...find a barge..make a barge...the more i think of strapping on a propellor the more i think not, almost as preposterous as hooking your pto up to something like this
guess it brings another meaning to the phrase half-baked ahh well back to the drawing board

What about compressing air with it? Have an onboard tank for tyre inflation, air tools, etc. that could prove very useful!

Off piste but in my yoof I worked on motorway maintenance, crash barrier installing/repairing etc.
I ran a landy with pto driven compressor which was subject to a lower taxation class and run on red diesel
