Garages, of course, can just pick up the phone and a set of bearings arrive an hour or two later... and if they turn out not to be needed, they just go back on the next parts delivery van for credit. Not to mention that replacing the bearings at the same time as the discs, compared to inspecting, cleaning, regreasing, would actually reduce the labour bill half an hour or so - with less chance of the job coming back at you.

Horses for courses, swings and roundabouts...if money isn't an issue.

Of course new bearings need packing with grease as well and cleaning, inspecting takes just a few minutes.

Incidently..I'm playing devils advocate here a little as I've just ordered a thermostat housing/top cover housing and a fitting kit before removing my old ones.
It could be I only need the housing but in this case my judgement was persueded otherwise as this is potentially a much more unpredictable repair with difficult access.

Sometimes - it doesn't matter how good a mechanic / fitter you are - The bottom line is - you are only as good as the parts you fit/ refit!
