New to the T25 party

Post by doceyebrow »

HI to one and all

Having never used forums before i'm unclear on the etiquette so apologies in advance!
I'm a mid thirties professional but spend as much time as possible outdoors and in the ocean, with a surprisingly understanding wife!

Finally got a t25 after 2 years of dithering, despite reading all of you guys helpful buying guides info ended up buying on impulse. Yes i Know!
Now the proud father of 1985 autosleeper Hi top, 60k, FSH however this am began to poke around a bit and found that both tops of the c-pillars (rear panels?) where they meet the roof line are rotted through letting water leak down and sit on the top of the engine bay. The rot seems to extend back along the roof line approx 10cm.

Was wondering if i could simply hack (sorry carefully angle grind!) this out and weld some plate or will i need to remove the hi top? It appears removing the hi top is not a simple job...

Fortunately this seems to be the worst part... luck more than judgement!

I am unsure how to post photos i hope the above works.

Many thanks

Amazing guys! Thank you soo much, in less than an hour!

Whatever did we do pre internet.

Looks like a fun if time consuming job. Think i'll wait till the spring in the mean time ill try and keep her somewhere dryish! Fortunately i have a friend whose passion is restoring morris minors, frankly my rust issues pale into comparison next to his.....

On the plus side it appears that apart from this all else is sound having worked through the helpful buying guides/check lists, and had an underneath "lump hammer" inspection.

Once again thanks, its this sort of experience that makes me thankful its t25 out there not a fiat ducato.

Apologies moderators as it was my first post i wasnt sure where to place it

Just a few pages!

The end result is stunning, good effort.

Well throughly cleaned (suspect it hadn't been done in years some of the plant growth was rather mature!) and few electrical gremlins fixed (washer...seems a common one), dehumidifier inside for a few days and stored in mates workshop. I'll wait for a warmer weather and fix the bodywork rust.

In the meantime the fridge...

Main moisture problem now is the carpet which is full of salt (its been a surf bus all its life) and therefore drawing in moisture and has saturated the underneath chipboard (?). Its only the middle inside cupboards and all else is bone dry but I guess cutting out that section is a half job so its take up the whole and replace, and that means effectively stripping interior completely. That said be opportunity to find any hidden rusty problems.

Its heading to Senegal in the summer....hopefully.

Wiki is great by the way much appreciated!

Once again thank you for all links/ welcomes etc.
