Make a jack pad out of two bits of thick ply with the rectangle cut out on one then screwed and glued together, really helps with stability and soft surfaces.Get an axle stand under there as soon as you can. I have had them go over a couple of times, sickening feeling, and it tends to damage the paint work if it happens. The van can shift when in the air,

if your going up high, chock both front wheels front and back to stop the van moving dont use bricks or paving, they can shatter. get one side lifted onto an axle stand when half way then jack the other to the same height, axle stand it then go back to side 1. Jack it higher, raise axle stand and repeat keeping the difference as small as poss between sides. The axle stand can cut into the chassis out rigger when doing this so its a good idea to go over it with some under seal when done.

Keep body parts well clear of the gap between the lever and the upright. When you are fitting the axle stand lock the lever in the upright position SECURELY. If the lever is allowed to fall it can have enough force to un lock the catch, bounce back and ratchet all the way down with the weight of the van. The have been stories of serious injuries being caused when this happens.

They are not to be used without extreme caution. as the foot is fixed unlike a trolley they cant go with the van as it flexes and moves putting them out of vertical. go sllowly, if your not happy with how its going, lower and start again. If your doing the front, a suitable sturdy block is recommended to go between the chassis rails for the axle stand to sit on.

Thanks for this , all useful. I had a demo on Sunday so got my head around his they 'work' , just not had occasion to use one before so being cautious. Will get a chance to practice in next couple of days

I have my Hi-Lift mounted to the side of my custom roof rack and have just taken the hight barrier out at Toys'R'Us in Croydon with the jack extender sticking up above the roof rack

I had to laugh when some old gravel voiced Gypsy looking old lady said, "You dont have Joker on your van for nuffink buv"
