How do I get a warranty for a respray (or works carried out)

Whenever a trades person does a service such as a re-spray, the job is regulated by the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. It has to be carried out "with reasonable care and skill". If the job hasn't been done competently, then you have come back. Down load a leaflet from the office of fair trading. I would write more but I'm on my phone and my finger aches!

Yep, that's about what I reckoned - thanks. Thats all you can expect, that the job is done to a degree of standard, and that standard lasts for some period of time. Of course they won't indemnify other people's work or rust coming through form some new place on a 24 year old vehicle.

Yes Harry is back and photos will follow. Looks great. There are some bugs and drips but they want the paint to harden a bit before going back over these. We agreed to hold back £100 until then, in a couple of weeks.

For anyone planning to have an expensive respray, my suggestion is go the roller paint job first, wait six years and then you'll see where the rot REALLY is rather than where you think it is. Then throw the money at an oven bake job. Otherwise no matter how carefully the restorer/painter does the job, it could and probably will, bubble anywhere.

heck you dont need a repaint be it roller or otherwise to find out exactly where the rot is , you need to remove the rose tints
oh and whilst i have no issues with rollering , i would add that i would have to price accordingly as it would have to come off first prior top spraying, something else to bear in mind
most of the problems i find is redoing past owners work, originbal rot is easy to fix

I totally agree with what is said here. The problem is a lot of people buy th first van they see and dont worry about the rot, then wonder why the new £500 respray the bloke down the road did looks crap within 6 months. A respray is only going to be as good as any renovation work carried out prior to it.

We looked for the "rot". We found some. We had it chopped out and new welded in. And as above I was looking for guarantee of the paintjob itself, not the vain hope that paint would stop rust coming through?!?

Love the idea of a roller job. Watched the vids. But I don't have the time or patience (to which someone will doubtless ask how do I plan to keep on top of myriad things you need to keep on top of).

oh heck yes , nothing ton do with critisism, not my or anyone elses place to do that,
what do you mean by a guarantee of the paintjob itself? the paint is to put it crudely,'stuck to your van' what part of this do you want guranteeing? sorry if im being a bit thick here?
one of the problems you will come across is that a van is repaired, ruat etc cut out, we are not i beleive taking about this itself are we? but rust blebs call them what you like can and will appear on panals/areas that prior to works were blemish free,
yes just like the van itself was blemish free on manufacture, time brings these things out and over the years the work you have had doen reflects this process and you have to be aware that the process is ongoing, for instance your rear arch may have been very nice 2 years ago but not now.
strip all the paint of anf start again as i did with the xrissvagon and you have a chance, but that work takes time/money
