Nut must have been loose at some time on the onion selector spline to wear that out?

Very strange synchro dog teeth... yet no bits in the box?
So Al, all the heavy and important bits were good.. :ok

You're bang on there Clive, or more precisely gradually getting looser and looser until it didn't work anymore. Definitely worth making that an immediate check if any gear change resistance/sloppyness begins!

Very strange synchro dog teeth... yet no bits in the box?

The box had definitely been rebuilt in the past, so this may have been from something previous?, what's more strange is that Aidan spent quite a while trying to decide whether they had been purposely machined like that, or whether they had worn that way. No conclusion was reached i might add.

So Al, all the heavy and important bits were good.. :ok

Yup, the heavy (expensive) bits were all fine....phew!

Is there more to come?

Yes, there's one more to come.
