All these US built wagons are built for open plains and National Park holidays from the looks of them. Is there anywhere else as "squeaky" as the UK for ripping off exterior fittings?

Must be very hard to know for sure.
I just can't see it, you can buy a very nice, solid, working syncro in the US for $20K ish,
That's gives you $50,000 for engine conversion, spray job, alloys & a nice service!!
