light switch

Post by monkeyboysee »

hi all,

i've only used the lights twice, both times i have got out of the cab, left them on and drained the flippin battery!! i guess i've got so used to modern cars beeping at me!

theres no light to show they are on, can i:

1, replace the switch with an illuminated one?
2, wire in a warning light on the dash, there seems to be 2 spare at the bottom?

oh, its a 1981 1600 Aircooled, so basic as...

There's a mod in the wiki to put a buzzer on when you open the door and the lights are still on:

:ok

You can use a separate warning light in the dash just connect it to the plain grey wire that comes out of the light switch.

That wouldn't stop you using the 'DiscoDave' method of utilising the heater controls illumination lamp and the cab door switch

haha if only i had some heater controls, i seem to remember more controls in a popular plus!

i think i'll go with herb's idea, shame there isn't an illuminated switch though, thought there might have been one from a golf etc.

Your heater controls will have an illumination lamp - just because it hasn't worked since the 80's doesn't mean the wiring isn't still there. You could even fit a new lamp while you were there

There was but the switch is illuminated all the time when the ignition is switched on so you could find the switch when it was dark.
