crankshaft question 2.1 wbx

Post by weimarbus »

question for those with technical knowledge, the hole in the end of the crankshaft where the needle roller bearing goes at the flywheel end, does it have a step in it or is this the remains of the old needle roller bearing. IE does the bearing sit nearly flush with the end of the crank or should the bearing and felt seal sit totally down into the crankshaft hole. hope this question makes sense, but the sun is now over the yard arm :)

The original spigot bearing on mine was installed flush with the end of the crankshaft with the flat-lipped inscripted side of the cage facing the gearbox. The felt washer sat inside the flywheel.

Thanks for the reply, this would seem to make sense as the engine was fitted to an auto box maybe the spigot bearing was not factory fitted because the torque converter bolts to the drive plate.
