the sill on my van seems to have crumpled a bit after looking at it ive found that whatever the jacking point is attached to has rusted and started to collapse, is it a new outer sill i need ? thanks jeff
I think you may be underestimating that a bit. You will need to find out why it has collapsed like that. Is the inner sill any good? the inner arch is that solid? Plus the fact you need to straighten out the jacking point/suspension mount.
You need to have a good look/poke around everything as it is part of the main structure.
jim
thanks jim i was going to get a new jacking/suspension bracket from brickwerks cut the old one off and have a poke around to see what else needed replacing , supposed to be going on hols to newquay in 2 weeks looks like id better break the bad news to the kids
is it safe to drive or does it need doing now ? the mot's up 2nd of sept so it needs doing before then to be honest im sick of the thing not a weeks gone by in the 11 months ive had it that somethings not gone wrong with it !
I don't think I would like to drive it in that condition. With the way the suspension point is it can't be that strong really.
I think you will probably be looking at
Inner sill
lower arch panel
rear mount
possibly the outrigger that welds to the outer sill/suspension mount.
There is a piece that is between the inner and outer sill which is like a strengthener. That may need looking at as well.
Not going to be a small job.
hey jim no drama mate , that van wont beat me one day it will be mint , im a car painter by trade but weldings not my thing my brother rebuilds minis so he's got a busy time coming up welding my van lol
