Sterling Charger - Wire choice

I know this is probably in the wrong section but thought it best to ask here as it seems a lot of you Syncro boys are running Sterling chargers. This will be going in my Westy camper.

Just bought a Sterling B2B which is on its way so i was wondering what wire to use? I remembered that i have three or four of the vw starter to battery cables from petrol T3's so i dug them out.

I cant see why they would not be man enough? Any thoughts? Will save me on buying new as well.

Anyone know what size these factory cables are? How do i measure them exactly?

Oh Sterling is a 50 amp model.

Mines the same model sterling as yours, i used 35mm cable. But my battery is in the back and sterling is in the front. A lot of the places that sell the cable have size calculators for you to use online

Yup, they'll handle the current, however you might find they're not the lengths you'll need.

If you've got a welding supplies place nearby, they'll be able to sell you some 35mm which is just the job.

Cool cheers for the replies! They are longer than what i need but will just cut them to suit.
What do you cut these chunky cables with?
Also anyone know a good place to buy end fittings for the wiring / cables

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm trying to get my head around this sterling cable lark.
if I have a 70a alternator and 130a sterling A2B, why would I want to use cable that's rated at 300a(35mm)?
Am I missing something here?
Am I correct in assuming that my 130amp Sterling could only output a maximum of 130amp and that's if I had a 130amp Alternator?

Go as big as you can/afford. It's safer, minimised voltage drop across long lengths, amplified voltage circuit for starters.

Alternators also peak higher than the stated rating.

Sterling charger manual recommends cable size for use with thier products.

Bayvelle.....those battery leads look heavy enough for at least 200 amps so no worries.....as usual, the weakness will be how good you can make the ends.
