I have factory fit fogs but that relay socket is empty on mine.

Have you tried just taking it out and sticking the buzzer relay in? You never know maybe a previous owner stuck it in hoping he'd get a headlight buzzer but got the wrong one.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick? It happens. A lot.

Palomino. If not in slot No7.Where is the relay for your fogs situated on your board?

LeeMe3.The buzzer is installed and working fine. The relay that was there is not the buzzing type.

Don't know I'm afraid but it could be an independent relay rather like the high beam switch which is just behind the headlights.

That relay is for the fog lights. I know because I've just fitted mine as per VW/Haynes Manual wiring diagram

Image

Relay position 7 according to the above wiring diagram

Image

I think your van must have had front fogs at some point Rob as if your van only had a rear fog fitted VW diverted the grey/yellow wire (B20) to the 'M' connector on the back of the relay box thereby dispensing with the need for the relay.

Image

Unless of course your van being a Caravelle and mine being a panelvan changes that but I can't see them fitting a relay unless they were going to fit front fogs too hence my money's on yours having been removed at some point.

I was thinking of detailing the wiring/relay modification in the wiki but I don't have access and even if I did I don't know how to.....

Bren.I dont think its ever had fogs fitted. As later vans had holes drilled in the front panel for the brackets. And mine has no holes.

Must be a caravelle/panelvan thing then. My relay position 7 was empty but the rear fog still worked due to that grey/yellow cable being diverted to the 'M' connection. I've now reconnected it to the floating grey/yellow from the B20* connector and fitted the relay.

Image

Image

This allowed the rear fog to operate via the relay and also allowed me to run new cabling for my front fogs off the C22 connector by fitting a suitable crimped female pin into the yellow 'C' connector block.

Image

If you have cabling leaving C22 the wiring for the front fogs will be present in your van even if the spots themselves are missing - wish mine had been that simple. Bottom line is it's the relay for your fogs and if you pull it out I'd bet the rear fog won't work. If that IS the case, why not reverse engineer your wiring back to my previous arrangement where the grey/yellow feed connects to the 'M' connector therby freeing up position 7 so you can plug the buzzing thing in in it's place? Might be worth a shot since you don't have front fogs fitted and the rear can operate without the relay...

*E D I T: I wrote B16 when I meant B20.
