Thanks for the replies. I replaced the lifters as mine were knackered. They used to bleed down every night. I tried 15/40 oil and 20/50 oil both in Morris brands. I have put this off for 6 months or more. I just got sick of the rattle in the morning and night (I use it daily too and from work).
The engine is as quiet as a mouse now. No rattles or nothing/..so thats what the problem was.
The other question I had was the adjustment or initial setting. I have heard that 2 turns on the rocker screw is too much..I have set them with the `just touching and have a turn`. I can here one rattling a little..but it is not nothing to worry about.
I have purchased a new Webber carb (the single one..I know some people have their oppinions) but my solex carbs were seaping petrol

so they had to go. I spoke to two different carb refurb companies..well known ones and they both said 7 - 9 weeks before they could even look at them..So I bit the bullet and purchased a genuine Webber from Webcon with Manifold, electric fuel pump etc. As i have come this far Im going to pull that head along with the other and have them overhauled.
Anything I should be aware of....I have done loads of Cylinder heads on normal petrol and diesel cars but never a flat 4 Aircooled, so some tips would be appreciated.

Life is not a rehearsal...Live life to the max....Buy a Aircooled VW and get covered in Rust and Oil.......But we all love it really....!!
