ahhh a full width leisuredrive - this is what i was looking for a picture of.

My feeling is that you can maximise storage by fitting an underslung water tank, buying a leisure battery that fits behind the seat or if its a diesel behind the starting battery.

If I look at the leisuredrive above I am losing very little storage. As my van was built be someone using leisuredrive bits, I never had the fitted water tank. So im losing the following:

- half the cupboard (the half without a door that mostly had things Id forgotten about)
- draining board (will miss this)
- space where my gas bottle floated about in acres unreachable space (where the original leisuredrive tank should have been)
- great big jerry can that was my water tank - going under the van in a proper tank.

I cant see that you lose that much as long as you keep a wardrobe cupboard of some sort!

3/4 or full width bed???

Post by Just Dash »

I've decided on 3/4, hope I've made the right choice. I just think we will need the extra storage space. We are both on a diet so hopefully the inches we have lost off the bed will disappear off us too!!!

We'd be fine keeping the 3/4 except my wife has the sleeping habits of a giant squid with spacial awareness issues... she always remarks on how well she slept whereas I have the perfect imprint of the wardrobe door beading across my forehead...

Easy answer here, do what we have done to our standard 3/4 width Leisuredrive = take out the wardrobe :ok

Brilliant for us because you get much more space around your head and shoulders so it feels MUCH less claustrophobic. Plus you don't lose that much storage space, I mean who hangs up suits etc in a wardrobe when camping ! We put a mattress level shelf in the gap between the edge of the 3/4 mattress and the side of the van which is great for putting nick nacks (glasses, phone etc) while you are asleep and there is some storage room under the shelf too. = Win Win :)

Will take a pic to post a bit later.

Dog = Dog's often get onto the bed ! Our little rough coated terrier can morph into a bigger thing than the wife when asleep on the bed !!
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

Unfortunately when you have 2 kids dispensing with the wardrobe is a definate no - being about the same size as a family suitcase, you can just squeeze everyones clothing in it! squeze / push is how I pack our van! I can get the following in the top locker - 2 x double duvets, 1 x toddler sleeping bag, 1 x single feather duvet, 1 x adult sleeping bag 4 x pillows - never ceases to amaze me if you just keep pushing...

Maybe, but my son sleeps sideways over the cab, my stepdaughter upstairs and the dog in the footwell!!!

To be honest the best thing we bought for storage was a small trailer - it transformed camping!!
