3/4 or full width bed???

Post by Just Dash »

Hi all,
A little input would be appreciated :-)
Decisions decisions!
My Hubby & I are in the process of converting our 1st van. I'm fairly sure I want a full width bed as I'm prioritising and a decent nights kip is worth much more than storage space to bring yet more stuff we dont really need! But...... am I doing the right thing? My Hubby & I are not slim-jims! So I am fairly sure but a little bit of input from ye who have any thoughts on the matter would be much appreciated :-)
Regards,
Debbie

Full width is ok but there is very little room for anything else just a very small sink/cooker pod, where as 3/4 give you a lot more room to be able to take stuff to be comfortable and not uncomfortable!

Ohh this is where we've been for ages! currently have a 3/4 bed and to be honest its too small, I wake up licking the wardrobe every day when camping!

Also the van is off the road currently while I rebuild the bodywork (which is nearly done :ok ). when I stripped it out I realised that the storage was mostly full of stuff we forgot was there and never used!

So... weve decided (sort of I thnk definately maybe)to go for a full width with a slim rear wardrobe. based very much on the Westfalia full width layout (not the fabrics :D ) - examples here:

http://www.westfaliat3.info/html/westfa ... led_-.html

I like the extra seat you get as well a bit more space for us + kids on a wet evening!.

I plan to do the swinging table thingy too as this gives you the missing worktop space as well.

When its done ill post some photos!

If anyone wants to post full width piccies on this thread you have 2 members who'd appreciate the inspiration I reckon!

We've done up a panel van & took ages making up our minds,
but got a 3/4 one in the end & last night was first time away in it.
Plenty of room for us & inside the double sleeping bag toasty :D
Only probs we had was actually getting into the bed, you have to be quite agile.... :rofl

3/4 or full width bed???

Post by Just Dash »

We've got the high top for our lad but he will be in the awning/tent whenever possible cos he's a noisy s*d!
I am so glad I asked cos I'm feeling the 3/4 is probably the way to go as I don't want stuff all over the place. We've just measured what a 3/4 one would be on our rug in living room and lay on it for a bit, had plenty of room, should of shut curtains though as our neighbours probably already think we are a bit strange!
Thanks for all the input, I'm so glad I asked :-)

A three quarter is plenty big enough plus it gives you space for the cooking/storage units.

Depends on just how much storage you need. My old camper had a full width bed and frankly I loved it in spite of not really needing it due to my natural shortarsedness. The slim cooker unit cupboard stored a fair whack of foodstuffs etc, there was plenty of room below and to the side of the rear seat; not to mention the storage space at the front of the high top which was massive. Bedding etc stowed in the rear of the high top. I'm not sure if we'd have been so keen on the arrangement had the camper have been a pop top or a tin top though.....

A few piccies
