Buzzy Buzzy Buzz, Annoying!

Hey everyone.

So i've come across this behind my dashboard, Unplugged at the back and looks like it has been for some time. ( I've only has the Van 3 weeks )
When I plug it back in I drive for 10 seconds and Buuuuuuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. :shock:
Oil light works fine and dosn't flicker.

So started doing some research on how I can fix the problem and noticed the Oil pressure switch isn't even connected to anything ? :?

I;ve been driving the Van around everywhere and seems to be working fine, but would prefer everything wired up correctly, because who knows !

I'm gunna need a little driection with this one.

I really need to get myself a haynes,

I'm a complete beginner, I need to attached the oil pressure switch. ( Under the cylinder head )

Do i need to run this back up to something on the dash or connect it within the engine bay? ( Pressure switch under the water tank? )

Hi the pressure switch is wired back to the dash board with a blue black wire (assuming same as 2.1 engine) to track 13 on the white multipin connector under the dash. The wire is probably either rolled up or chopped at the black box on the left hand front side of your engine bay

just had a quick run down and I;ve got this:

Nothing chopped or cut, everything seems connected.

Then the blue and yellow runing down, This splits of to the Dizzy and Then the high/low pressure warning mounted near the water pump housing.

sounds like muppettry has occurred prior to you buying !

the brown pair of wires after the white twin joiner one goes to the sender behind the water pump one to the one tween the push rod tubes . neither go to the dissy

one brown to each sender

find the longer one and connect it to earth then plug the BoD back in . if it does not buzz then the wiring and BoD is ok
if then when you connect to the sender behind the water pump and it buzzs again replace the sender and get the oil pressure checked before driving again

Maybe the one going to the dissy is actually going to the earth tag on the dissy body. Previous owner might have read about earthing a sender wire to shut the BOD up.

Morning all,

This is how it was setup:

Top brown wire going to the Earth on the dissy.

Bottom wire going to the sender on the waterpump:

Top wire is now going to the cylinderhead sender.

No buzzing on start up. :wink:

Started buzzing 5 mins into a drive, was doing around 30mph. :cry:

Guess the next thing now is to get hold of new senders and see what that does.

Any ideas on what supposed to be sitting on the dissy EARTH ?? I have a couple of male connectors just sitting around near it, wrong connector though?

Agreed but order them from Brickwerks as JK & GSF often either send the wrong ones or they fail in no time :?

It is only there for an optional RF screening can that was sometimes fitted to reduce interference to 2 way radios of the day.

Amazing, Right mine are both blue.

I'm assuming I'll need the same one for both sender points? They look the same.

I know you mentioned not to get them from here, BUT FOR EXAMPLE?

I've already discovered I'm gunna need a longer socket head to get these out, but how the hell do I go for the one on the water pump hahah,

Don;t want to end up with my tail between my legs heading towards a garage!

before you spend any money, re-read my earlier post, it may not be the sender, the muppet had earthed the wrong wire! its the one off the sender near the water pump that needs earthing to stop the buzz....iirc.

Yep it's tricky but do-able ( I did mine ) no need to remove owt either, just need to get you spanner in at the right angle !

So rewired both sensors up with new connectors,
Yellow - Sensor on water pump
Blue - Cylinderhead
Still buzzing.

So after following a converstaion with MOCKI ( Amazing help by the way ! ) I proceeded to earth the yellow wire starting from the connector to the sensor and finishing on the yellow wire on the VAN SIDE of the connecting plug within the waterproof house.

Everytime I reved above 2000 rpm the buzzing was back.

Then decided to head towards the dashboard and earth it out up there, but I'm not sure which one is the wire I'm looking for? 1.9 GW engine 1989.

More than happy to throw somebody a few pennies if they can help me out, I've got a trip planned for Monday so stressing a little.

Went to GSF to purchase some pressure switches According to their system

x1 black 0.15 - 0.45 bar 021 919 0818

x1 white - which just reads - 068 919 081A, no BAR info ? ( From WIKI - High rpm/low pressure sensor (Petrols) - 068 919 081 A (0.9 bar GREY) - Std. 2.1 )

not really to sure which one goes where? or even if they are the correct ones ? this is my next option I guess.

Reading your opening post the first thing I noticed is that you said the connector on the speedo was not connected but the oil pressure light worked. Did you mean the oil pressure light worked after re-connnecting the connector?

The oil pressure light should not work with the connector on the back of the speedo disconnected unless some sort of mod has been carried out. I will read through the entire post tomorrow and take a peek at all the pictures and info then get back to you.
