gear shaft replaced help

Post by pete77 »

hello all ,yet another gearshaft question ,please help.have removed front
shaft that was a jointed shaft in middle as just kept getting worse.have got good one piece shaft from mega bug.had to drop petrol tank down to fit shaft.1st question does the front bush go in front of chassis above petrol tank or behind chassis on shaft? 2nd question does it have to go on a sertan way.? pick would be nice if poss.
after conecting in newer shaft had to jack up shaft to reach bottom of gear leaver.had 2 forward gears(not sure which ones).and gear leaver was to far back from dash and as far over to left as possible.disconected and rotated shaft 360 and reconected.now no gears. i am guesing that the bend in shaft
raise up above tank with prongs on shaft pointing up to gear leaver. as its replacement i must be doing some think very wrong.advise please, any picks
please.1982 watercooled 1.9 petrol.was air cooled and great conversion to water cooled runes fantastic just gear problem.ps back rod has new bush conecter to g/box.many thanks

air cooled gear shift rods are different to water cooled

you need the complete under van set up to swap from water to Aircooled.

the bush above tank becomes obsolete and you have to move it so its just infront of water cooled joint.

it will then be fitted into the chassis cross member as all watercooleds not on a bracket as air cooled

the wiki stuff is for the stick end , and a 5 speed stick so prob no good for you.

the 4 speed sticks fit the same , just the horizontal shift rod setup was changed with water cooling
