Was the original clip still being used or a hose clamp.

Original clip on inlet and outlet and it was a clean break. The broken off bit was complete inside hose, I broke it getting it out. It was really brittle, just fell to pieces. Strange isn't it?

Strange indeed! Can only think you hit a bump too far for the pump, or something!

Replaced mine two years ago cause it had also seized and had coolant seeping through the back of the motor housing. Not cheap!

Think the editor of PPC has an SVX as a project car. Sure in this months mag he says there are only about 36 left in the UK, as if they are not hard enough/expensive enough to source at the mo.....................

Hmmm, just been adding up some costs. I'm probably looking at between £4-500 in parts if the head has gone. That's inc £100 for reconning the injectors and about £150 for a good head. But not inc cambelts/timing belts, mine are pretty new so don't know if I need to replace them? And that's if I swap the head myself.
If its just the pump, £90 and I'm all good
if the head has gone I could buy a golf tdi for about £350 (probably a 1Z) but I'm finding the 1Z's seem to be lower mileage than the AHU/AFN's anyway? And isn't the 1Z block more similar to the AAZ, so the engine mounts don't have to be adapted?
Anyway brain working overtime at the moment, have a chance to go tdi, am I even hoping the heads gone? :?
Going on that vwdiesel.net you can see 1Z's are pretty tuneable....

Blown head gasket costs are,

Head gasket (2 notch) £17.25
Head bolts £13.50
Cam belt kit £25.50
Manifold gaskets £3.20
8mm copper nuts £2.50

£150 of the head is gone or it can be tested for £60 at Sutton rebore just to be 100% its OK

If the head is OK and you want to use the old cam belt and tensioner your only looking at £30.75 to fix it, and that is if it has blown.

I was going along the line of replacing everything, so a complete headset (decoke) is £40. If I'm fitting a new head, would be rude to not fit reconned injectors  admittedly it will probably still be under £400, but just trying to fool myself

Probably not the right thread to post this on - but a 2.1 DJ seems increasingly attractive :rofl :rofl :rofl

Come on Simon, Patrick, Kingprawn, even Jed etc - back me up :D :D

(Probably tempting fate though - will tell you when we get back from Dartmoor next Sunday) :rofl :rofl

Ah you see! engine not really to blame, just some stupid plastic pump  now if i get time to fit the pump tomorrow, bleed it and it works. It will prove that you can fry an AAZ and it will still work

Good on you Lloyd - hope it works. Definately can't fry a 2.1 DJ and carry on - although they do seem to take a bit of abuse according to all the posts on samba.com

If you want I can nip over and remove your sump plug when no one is looking so it grinds to a halt and you can convince your misses you have no option other than fit a TDI!

Lloydy, worth fitting one of these as it will give an instant reading if a hose or other goes
