Combi Cololor

Post by Trunkster »

Had I nice suprise today! I am preping my camper ready to paint in the spring. I have looked into rollering myself (the van not me) and found out that Rustolium Direct is based in a builders yard in Wolverhampton that I go into nearly every week! Went in today and had a chat with them and very helpfull they were too. I found out on tinterweb that you should realy stick to the base colours ie off the shelf stock as mixing the exact colour you want can cost upto 3 times the price. Rubish!! £35 ish (depends on how much and pound notes wink wink) for 2.5 litres and an extra £4 to have your own color made or choose from 75000 colors available. You can't paint fiberglass like I was told unless it is alredy painted. If it is fresh fiberglass you need a primer which is about £17. Just thought I would pass it on.
If anyone knows Wolverhampton it is in Carvers!!
:ok
If in doubt give it a clout!

Rustoleum Direct have always been very helpful with 80/90 members and providing you ring, they'll give you a discount. They even have a clip of the roller DVD on their site.
Roller paint your camper at home: http://roller.epizy.com/55554/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for MP4 download.

Hi,
I have mixed my own colur of Rustoleum. A match for the existing white. I did it this way.
I mixed small quantities by proportion using a small (printer ink refill) syringe until I got the right match, or one that I was happy with. As I am 'rollering' my van in stages I only mix a couple of jam jars of colour at a time.
The proportions I am using are 4 parts white, 2 parts beige and 3 parts grey.
I worked out, using water, where these proprtions would come on a jam jar and marked the jar.
Using a larger syringe (e bay) add the paint colours to the jar. Stir well. In between colours fill syringe approx. halfway with turps, agitate, empty and repeat. The amount of turps is not important as long as it's the same amount everytime. Keep this turps mixture as it is in the same proportion as your paint mix and will do for thinning. I have 'mixed up' several times and I cannot tell the difference between batches.
The mixed colour lasts quite a long time in the jar, I usually add a little of the turps mix, enough to cover the surface, before closing with a polythene food bag under the lid.
When painting, hot and cold weather, I thin some of the colour mix with about 10% of the turps mix and roller away. I finish off just before the paint is becoming unworkable with just about the weight of the roller on the job.
Wait 48hours, light rub with 400g wet/dry, apply another coat. Repeat 48hrs later. Job done.
I have lightly rubbed down some bits with T cut, or similiar and I am satisfied with the finish. Nobody has criticised the result so far.
Hope this helps.

Which VW white is the original colour of your van, this sounds like what I need?

Pastel White was original colour but now faded/bleached.

You might find that using yellow instead of or as well as grey might give a colour that suits you better.
Its a case of experimenting. Some of the colours of Combi you can purchase in small tins, 250ml I think.
