If they are decent, your battery will be flat in no time..

Re: 12 v car heaters
I used to use one of the small heater/blower units in my boat - it only gave a small area to peer through, which was enough as I could steer from outside of the wheelhouse or put it on autopilot and view from on deck. They are not very good to use with safety, vision wise, in a car if you are heavily misted up I would have thought.

Re: 12 v car heaters
there isn't anything that you can plug in and give enough heat to demist or worse still defrost.
Best thing I can suggest is you heat the van overnight with a oil rad.. this will keep the frost off and your windows clear.
However as for driving I think it would mist up again pretty soon, unless you can hold your breath.
I suppose you have checked the fuse ?
and checked the switch?
as these are easy to do.

Get yourself a manual de-misting device:-

and let everyone think your van is Aircooled.

Re: 12 v car heaters
Dash out is no big deal as long as you follow the guide and don't go the haynes route of removing steering column (you only need to lay it down with seat removed). A new blower is around £40 - cheap fix really and better done now than when everything is frozen solid.

Re: 12 v car heaters
I have a 12v demister from E bay cost £20. Its ok but not great. It is dash mounted or can be removed and held like a hair drier. It is fine to stop it misting up once it is demisted but takes ages if already misted up. I have an air cooled. Plenty of heat through the vents but hardly any air movement. Has any body ever tried a 1200w inverter and a hair drier before?

If in doubt give it a clout!

Re: 12 v car heaters
In my beetling days, someone developed some inline blowers that 'assisted' the heat from exchangers to interior. No idea if they're still around or you might be able to find something that would do a similar job. Usually its a series of leaks that pulls down the efficiency of heating on Aircooled models. Lagging the heater tubes front to back helps.
