Some prep will obviously need doing to get all the rusty metal out before welding. What you think I'm looking at guys?

NSR next to the jacking point. I prized this bit of rust out and a fair lot of water came running out. But the metal surrounding that hole is pretty solid it seems

Going to be a lot worse than it looks. For a start you havent cleaned anything up yet to find the extent of the rust. Rust can find its way anywhere, probably not what you wanted to hear im afraid.

could you give me any tips on determining the extend of the horror? I banged a screw driver with a hammer around the areas, and it sounded strong. But that's about all I could think of trying as it's hard to see inside the cavities beyond where the holes are.

remove the interior
get the grinder/sandisc/cutters out and start cleaning up, then you'll see it unravel before your eyes.
stop grinding when you think it's expensive to repair

Buy new panels, make some replacement sections or buy a used part that can be cut up

take it or show a welder your cleaned up areas and he'll hopefully be kind to you as you saved him a bit of dirty work.

If he's just welding he's happy... and you'll save some money

there's no way of making this survive a couple of years by wire wheeling it to bare metal from the outside for welding/vactan/painting, and then leaving the interior alone?

Don't have the time and space to gut it right now really. I get only 1 afternoon a week to work on the van, and have no storage space!

alas no..
that's why, at the end of last month I have gave my van to a fella who has, because like you I was faced with a dilemma, after a discussion with the fella, he helped me through it and we came to an agreement.

I think I'm going to go for one of these:

http://www.tool-net.co.uk/p-355427/undefined" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

unless advised otherwise? I heard the clarke's are good and that one's a decent price.

Any idea where to get the gas conversion kit for it and how much I'm likely to pay?

many thanks guys! :)
