caliper replacement pre job check

I am planning on doing my front caliper tomorrow (snapped bleed nipple) . I have a roll of 3/16 kunnifer some M10 male and female unions, and the caliper.This only came with a couple of boots and a tube of silicone grease, but no bolts :roll: Shouldn't the budveg kit come with fitting bolts? I can get some though, Etos says

No2 in the image below M8 X 21 is 8.8 tensile sufficient? locktite threadlock will be OK?

I take it the small rubber boots are for the carrier guides, and the silicone grease is for fitting them?
any gotchas to be aware of? anything else I have missed?
Hard pipe from caliper is listed as 305mm in etos 30CM seems a bit excessive is that right?

Look at the pictures again....No 2's are the floating caliper slide/guide pins and are much longer than 21mm...do you mean number 3? these are the two bolts that fasten the caliper to the fixed carrier via the slide/guides pins.

Yes the small gaitors are used to seal the caliper slide/guide pins. Pull the gaitors over the pins, apply grease to the pins then push the pins into the caliper making sure each end of the gaitor is located in the recess groove.

These 8mm bolts are normally supplied with a new set of brake pads, if not, re-use your old bolts but apply thread lock when assembling.

Bleed your caliper first but then bleed all.
It is probably worth changing the brake fluid (bleeding all four brakes) starting from the furthest away from master cylinder bleeding to the closest. A full litre of DOT4 should do it.

Thanks Martin so its bolt 3 that holds the caliper to the carrier. I'm sure it will become obvious once I have got it all off. I have a nsty feeling the flexis wont budge, but I have sufficient to do the barke pipes if they dont want to play ball!

Personally when I replace brake pads it helps to de-rust the carrier or more specifically...where the brake pads sit in the carrier, then apply plastilube or other brake assembly grease so the pads can move freely for the couple of years without worry.
Cleaning the carrier is much easier once removed, do this by removing the two large carrier bolts....again refit with a dab of thread lock on the threads.

And
More work...but it makes sense for you to strip/free off and lube the other side as well so you are sure that both brakes are working 100%

Torque settings
Wheel bolts 180NM
Carrier to hub 160NM
Think the small 8mm caliper bolts are 35NM

Snapped my bleed nipple not long after I got my Caravelle and bleed via the brake hose without too much difficulty.

I'm very intrigued about the brake lines....I can see you have a twist in the pipe....so are yours catching like mine were, on full lock both ways?

Cheers Martin, Catches only occasionally, seems to be pulling away from when parking without full lock, but not when at speed which is a bit weird only driven it once to test so i'll have to do more testing, esp before I fit the other Line. standard 185 r14c

COv kid, I used a bit of heat to try and get the nipple out and its been bugging me for a while that the stuff in the caliper housing behind the piston would just be overheated and rotten, job done now, noticed the other caliper has an 8mm bleed nipple I wonder if its been drilled out and re tapped.
