engine undercover or not?
In short: massive oil leak due to replaced turbo (JX) oil return pipe rubbing on the engine 'undercover' and wearing through the pipe (not my work I might add). The worst thing is that I could not see the dammage due to the cover (which is an oily mess now - especially the insulation). So......after replacing the pipe with a shiny new one from Brickwerks do I put the nasty cover back on or just leave the engine to hang loose (a bit like the boxer vs breifs arguement
)

Re: engine undercover or not?
Hello there,
My JX has not had the covers on since I bought it two and a half years ago and it seems ok with it. I think over here the snow and cold weather eats away at it pretty quickly! I guess the engine will get rusty quicker and maybe a bit more noisy inside (no sound insulation), but cannot think of any bad things that will happen if it is left off.
Interested to know how many others have their covers still in place?????
Tom.

Our 1.9td goes commando too - didn't even know they had these undercovers fitted as standard. I like them off as how else can you look for all those oil leaks and trace funny noises
