Awkward Hole to fix

Hi everyone,

I'm seeking advice to fix a smallish hole (could get bigger after removing rust!), I'm not sure if its better to fill using p38/bondo or to use something like P40?



Its in the lower left corner of the windscreen (yes that is the remnants of some gaffer tape....)

filler = bodge you need to get the window out and weld in fresh new metal, no point filling it and letting it get worse underneath!

as james says..filler will trap any water in and rot it out further

taking the windscreen out is a peice of pi$$..i did it on my own and put it back in.you dont even need to cut the rubber.just fold the rubber under the lip of the windscreen frame from the inside..all the way round and it should pop out..be carefull not to use too much pressure pushing on it..it will come out eventually.have a helping hand if you need it on the outside to catch it and help you lower it away from the van.
then you will see the extent of the damage and proberbly more holes that you couldnt see when the screen was in.

then when its fixed clean the rubber up so theres no crap in the lips and string it back in..jobs a fish

I had a funny feeling that would be the answer.

I'm currently trying to find the time to weld, I've bought a clarke 90en but havent had any time to practice. Space is lacking too... As for the 'new metal', whats the best way to fabricate a section to weld?

Also would it be a good idea to fill it for the moment and weld it when I have the time? (I can't see me having time till oct when I'm starting my other welding jobs!)

well if your doing it in Oct>>>> then dont bother with filler as youll also have it to remove , I would tape it for a month or so.
buy the rep sections or form them up yourself if your handy..

Its not just awkward, it also compromises the strength up front, hence need to do the job properly. I wrote this some time ago as almost every T25 will have this issue now in lesser or greater degrees. You should not fill it. Weld it all up properly. New windscreen seal a must if its original. Can't see point in going to all that trouble to weld up front and refit a 20 year old rubber seal. False economy.
