If you do what I did once, an awful lot....I left the sump drain plug open, a very expensive engine flush and a lesson well learned.

Or have you tried the Wiki /\/\/\/\https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Pe ... oil_change

1.9DG takes 4.5 litres of 15w/40 MINERAL oil including the filter and 4 litres if your not changing the filter ... I change our's at 3,000-4,000 miles so change the filter every other time.

Don't do what I did.

Drain oil into tray, replace oil filter. Put back sump plug.

Pour 4.5 litres of the correct oil straight into engine.

Pick up catch tray and pour into old engine oil canister. Only to find that I have just put only 3.5 litres in.

Looked at my dipstick.....Overfilled - i.e. above the top mark.....Doh!

3.5 litres to bottom of dipstick - 4.5 litres to top of dipstick. If any old oil is still in engine then if you put 4.5 litres in then you will over fill it, like I did.

Poor in 3.5 litres and then check your dipstick...top up as necessary. I would then suggest that your engine will 'find its own level'. It might burn off a bit of oil until it is happy, especially if you top it up to top level.

Do not continue to top it up to the top level if it is dropping slightly - just monitor it until it levels off - only top it up if it goes below the bottom mark and then go find the leak.......

At least that is my experience.

Change the oil with the engine warm ... oil flows easier. I park with the nose upwards so again it drains easily, wait until it stops flowing, drop filter, wait til that stops dripping. Replace sump plug and seal, lube new filter and fit, wipe all the underside to make sure you can spot any leaks and refill with 4.5 litres of the good stuff.

Done.

My experience has been the opposite to yours, my MV 2.1 takes a little more than 4.5litres and I end up with barely a splash left over in the 5 litre container.....I do hot change and allow a good 20 minutes to drain so that could be the reason.
Note* leave the sump plug out when you remove the filter.....you do tend to get a little more draining from the filter into the sump after the filter is removed.

Only fit the filter hand tight and lube the seal with oil prior to fitting.
