Andrew, here's a half-sensible idea: google "vw industrial diesel engine specifications" or variations on that theme, might just throw up a spec sheet for an AHU engine (if that's the right code?) which won't be far off.

As for the Mefro, don't they have a website? Must have published specs too :ok

Page 6, approximate weight 135 kg dry.

Yup did that a while ago. They make a lot of wheels ..... nearly 23 million last year. They give all sorts of specs but dont mention the actual weight of a wheel.

I Wiki'd the VW engines a while ago and weight wasnt mentioned so thanks for the info. I bought an engine stand from Seeley as they were on half price offer and its rated to 350kgs. It is struggling under the weight of a complete AAZ

We've got a Draper ES 450 in the workshop, rated at 450kg, but it's as good as the size of the fixings for the engine/bellhousing. It regularly gets XK twin-cams and all-iron pushrod 6 cylinder engines hung on it (from just 4 x 5/16" bsf studs in the latter case)
It does droop a bit when the big lumps go together but (touch wood) it's always been ok.
A little VW diesel 4-pot shouldn't be distressing any engine stand...is it made from woven chinese noodles?

Here's a post on TheSamba stating the weight of a Mefro 15" to 24.5lbs ≈ 11,1kg.

It probably is made from Chinese noodles but as long as it will hold an inline 6 Mercedes engine I dont care!

Thanks Sebastian for the link

350 kg is a lot of engine in anyone's money! I know I often use Jag engines for weight comparisons, but a V12 with all it's clothes on struggles to make 300kg.
There's no way a Merc 300D (?) gets close to that so you should have plenty of safety margin.
Having said all that, I'd rather have a stand with a pair of wheels at each end, not a tripod like the lighter Sealey ones...they look like they have the potential to hurt someone with a long engine bolted up, especially when you have to turn it over :?
