seam sealer

hi all ,
ive just started digging out the sealant on the gutters of my 89 westy high top as it is starting to look a bit rusty underneath the gutter,it is proving to be a lot harder to get out than i thought ,now using a hamer and chisel!
i have bought some sikaflex to go back in the gutter ounce i have treated rust and refinished the paint with aerosil cans.I was wondering if sikaflex is also ok for use on the seam jointsbetween the bodypanels as i have one seam that needs a bit of work ? has anyone done this before ?

= then RustEncap deep into the seam and surrounds; others prime and use Tigerseal or a good polyurethane seam sealer

I think tigerseal would be a good solution.....the bad news is that if it has already started rusting, rust will remain deep in the seam and eventually work its way back out no matter what you seal it up with.

ive just finished digging out as much sealer as i can out of the gutters ,ground out rusty bits and now treated the rusty areas with some oxycon (bought of a stall at last years bvw fest last year )its like rust kill that sort of stuff rust convertor /primer.That has taken me about 4 hours to do one side using a wire wheel in a drill ,a dremel and hammer and chisel,i will try and get some pics up when i can .
next a bit of filling with some P40 fiberglass stuff in the bad areas .Back to it !

You're not going to have much effect on the rust in the seams unless you treat them from the interior side of the van too

T he panel with the dodgy seam is the one just below the filler cap on the passenger side ,so directly behind the seam is the wheel arch,it has a load of sealant painted all over the joins maybe this has cracked and is letting water in from behind ??? i will have to have a closer look .

I wire wheeled on a strong drill after multiple applications of jenolite. until all the rust and black pits were taken off!

I used sikaflex. then rustoleum. seems good so far.

when you used the wire wheel on a drill did it not take away allot of the paint either side of the seam ?

hi sorry for butting in.........hi xpress so clean the seams as best you can??? jenolite/vatcan and then sikaflex but why not rustoleum first to stop the rust then sikaflex for gap and flex and then rustoleum which has flex and stops rust??? need to know cause need to do mine cheers simon

indeed it is but some poor sod will read the word sikaflex and go right ahead, next thing you know they wont be stopping at panel bonding but maybe do away with the screen rubbers and and
