Heater Motor Replacement

The heater motor has failed and I wondered if anyone has replaced this item. It seems to be buried under the dash assembly. How easy is it to get at?
How long should I allow. I am not a mechanic but reasonably adept with tools etc.

Not at all easy to get at, and yes it is buried beneath the dash, which all has to come out the van to get at it. Got to drop the steering column to do this. Sounds scary but it's pretty straightforward really, just a really big bit to remove!
If you're comfortable with the spanners you should be ok.
Before replacing motor, see if it's just the spindle seized in the bush - can often be revived for many more years service with a little freeing off and lubrication.

WIKI checked (wrist slap) Haynes now obtained and job scheduled for the coming weekend.

If your vehicle has the earlier cartridge (as opposed to blade) fuses, check out the fuse mod on the same page. Its at the bottom. Earlier vans put wipers and blower on one fuse. The mod shows how to put each on its own fuse.

Heres selfmade plywood cover of the dash. Its easy to cut away a part of the metal cover about 1 cm smaller than the plywood.Then make a cardboard sabloon (a pattern) to cut a right size plywood piece. Mounting by screws (screws for woodwork).
It helps to reach many different broblems behind it,for. ex. radio,wires,air tubes, but does it help to change heater motor I dont surely know.

No, you'd still need to remove dash. Love the shopping trolley solution although the passenger will be glad he has his seat belt on

The job sounds and looks a bit daunting but I've done it twice before and it's an ok job. Be methodical and make a good job of labelling your wires.

And despite what Haynes manual says, you don't need to remove steering column, just the wheel. You remove drivers seat and lay column down.
